A leading Denver based law firm, representing clients in a diverse range of industries, seeks a Chief Operating Officer. The Chief Operating Officer (“COO”) is primarily responsible for business and non-legal aspects of the firm. Reporting to the partners through the Management Committee, the COO is responsible for finance and accounting, technology, human resources, facilities, communications, marketing, and administration. Overall responsibilities extend from day-to-day business issues to longer term issues and strategic planning.Role Overview:

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for the day-to-day administrative and operational functions of the Firm. The COO reports to the Managing Partner. The COO oversees operational matters and coordinates with the Firm's senior leadership team (CLO, CFO).Primary Duties and Responsibilities:Operational Planning and Strategy:

Analyze business operations to increase profitability and ensure that Firm policies and procedures are carried out effectively.Operational Policies and Procedures:

Collaborate with the Managing Partner to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate the growth strategies of the Firm.Budgeting and Profitability:

In consultation with the CFO and Director of Finance, develop a budget for the operation of the Firm. In consultation with CFO, review and develop methods of determining and ensuring profitability of client engagements.Staff Leadership:

The COO provides day-to-day staff leadership and management reflecting the vision, mission, and values of the Firm. Motivate and lead a high-performance administrative team. Attract, recruit, train and retain staff for the Firm. Provide guidance and mentorship.Measurement and Reporting:

Ensure measurement and effectiveness of all internal and external operational processes, providing timely, accurate and complete reports to the Managing Partner on the operating condition of the Firm.IT:

Maintain the Firm's technology infrastructure to maximize internal efficiencies within the Firm; supervise the Director of Information Technology.Cybersecurity:

Create and manage, in connection with the CFO and CLO and IT Director, the Firm's cybersecurity systems.Leasing and Space Planning Matters:

Manage relationships with the Firm's landlords, including negotiating leases, amendments and related matters; resolve issues arising in connection with the Firm's facilities and physical infrastructure; and lead space planning and renovations.Library and Information Services:

Manage the Firm's library, information services, and related online research vendors and services.New Business Intake and Records Management:

Manage the Firm’s new business and conflicts and records management systems.Business Insurance:

Manage all business insurance and relationships with brokers and consultants, including general commercial insurance; professional, employment, management and cyber liability insurance; health, disability and employee benefits insurance.Firm Leadership Meetings:

Facilitate and participate in Firm Management Committee and Partner meetings; attend section meetings; participate in specialty committee meetings as designated (DEI, B Corp, Mansfield, Pro bono, Legal Opinion).Administrative Directors and Managers:

Manage and supervise administrative directors and managers, to include Director of Human Resources, Information Technology Director, Marketing Director, Facilities Manager, Records Manager.Procurement and Vendor Relations:

Approve the purchasing of office equipment and supplies. Act as a liaison with vendors to facilitate the operation of the back-end operations of the Firm.Disaster Preparedness:

Ensure emergency protocols are in place, with staff trained on the same; develop a disaster readiness plan.HR Matters:

Oversee and manage the Director of Human Resources, including determining non-attorney hiring needs. Recruit, interview and screen applicants for non-attorney positions. Implement and enforce the Firm's personnel rules and employment policies. Coordinate staff vacation schedules, supervise the payroll function and administer the Firm's benefit plans. Serve as 401k Plan Administrator. Orient, train and act as the Firm's supervisor of all non-legal staff. Train staff on all operational policies and procedures and the job performance review process.Important Leadership Traits:Strong leadership ability.Strategic mindset.Professional and ethical acumen.Confident, capable of managing support staff and delegate as necessary, maintaining good interpersonal relations and communications with lawyers and support staff while helping to safeguard and cultivate the Firm's corporate culture.Sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, and strong operational focus.Well-organized and self-directed.Intelligent and articulate in relating to people at all levels of an organization with excellent communication skills.Ability to delegate as appropriate while retaining primary responsibility for matters delegated.Education and Experience:An MBA; professional certifications such as Certified Legal Manager is preferred.At a minimum, the COO will have graduated from a recognized college or university with major course work in business administration or management, finance, human resources, technology or marketing or comparable work experience.Experience in management at a law firm, preferable as a COO or in a similar capacity.Experience in developing and managing teams that support legal professionals.DEI training.Ability to maintain calm and professional demeanor in high stress environments.Benefits:
