AM-Applied Mathematics and Computational Research102048Berkeley Lab’s Applied Mathematics and Computational Research Division seeks an AI Focused Biochemistry Postdoctoral Fellow with expertise in AI and foundation models (e.g., LLMs) for knowledge discovery. A background in biochemistry is highly desirable. As part of the Applied Computing for Scientific Discovery Group (ACSD), you will develop software tools and applications to enable scientific discoveries in key DOE mission areas, focusing on integrating and analyzing complex data from simulations and experiments.You will work in a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with scientists from biosciences, physical sciences, and computational sciences. Your role involves contributing to ACSD’s efforts in understanding biochemical processes for carbon capture by developing AI and inverse design technologies for accelerated discovery in biological ecosystems.What You Will Do:Develop, test, benchmark, and tune AI and foundation models with experimental biochemical data.Create computational biochemical data sets.Deploy developments on high-performance computing platforms.Collaborate with scientists from biosciences, physical sciences, and computational sciences.Author peer-reviewed journal articles and contribute to research proposals.Publish developed algorithms as software packages.What is Required:Ph.D. in the last 3 years in Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computational Science, Chemical or Biochemical Sciences, or related field.Strong research background in AI, foundation models, and programming.Fundamental knowledge of biology or biochemistry.Experience in developing AI and foundation models for biochemistry or chemistry.Experience with high-performance computing.Ability to work in an energetic cross-disciplinary team.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Strong interpersonal skills.Desired Qualifications:Experience developing datasets for biology or biochemistry.Experience with molecular computational chemistry methodologies.Notes:This is a full-time 2 year, postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 3 years of paid postdoctoral experience. Salary for Postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree.This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.The salary range for this position is $77,172 - $103,704 and is expected to start at $94,116 or above.This position may be subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position.Work will be primarily performed at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA.
