Position Information Posting Number: 2014023F Position Title: Part-Time Organic Chemistry Instructor (Pool) Department: Human Resources DIST (DEPT) Position Number: PTF043 Percentage of Full Time: Varies FLSA: Exempt (does not accrue overtime) Months per Year: Semester assignments as needed Salary Range: Placement on the adjunct faculty salary schedule is based upon education and credited experience. Lab Course - $75.48 up to $103.03 per hour. Lecture Course - $87.88 up to $118.85. The Position The Colleges seek a part-time faculty member in Organic Chemistry. The ideal candidate will share the Colleges’ commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. This position is a "pool" position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. Your application for this position will be kept current for a period of two years. Duties and Responsibilities
Essential functions include the following: Teach courses offered in the Organic Chemistry curriculum. Assist in curriculum revisions and new course development. Consult with students during regularly scheduled office and lab hours. Maintain expertise in current practice and technologies. Serve as a member of division and college committees. Perform other professional duties as required by contract and general institutional needs. Minimum Qualifications
• Possession of a Master’s or above in chemistry OR Bachelor’s in chemistry or biochemistry AND Master’s or above in biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, physics, molecular biology or geochemistry OR the equivalent. • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Successful experience in, or academic preparation for, teaching Organic Chemistry at the college level. Experience of small scale/micro-scale organic synthesis techniques. Experience in spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques. Knowledge of successful teaching techniques that engage students in their own learning. Commitment to maintain currency in the discipline and related technology appropriate to instruction. Ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken language. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Conditions of Employment
