As a General Attorney, GS-0905-11, you will:Makes civil rights compliance determinations and ensures that complaints and proactive enforcement activities are processed in accordance with the Assistant Secretary's directives, regulations, policies, case law and conform to established case-processing procedures.Conduct legal research and serves as a legal policy advisor to team members on complex factual and legal issues related to the investigation, negotiation, and resolution of complaints, compliance reviews and directed investigations.Assist in the conduct of enforcement actions through judicial or administrative litigation.Participate in the development of the agency's legal position and formulates supporting legal theories.Assist with the development of technical assistance (i.e., responses to recipient inquiries).As a General Attorney, GS-0905-12:You will be assigned the duties and responsibilities identical to those found at the GS-11 grade level. The incumbent is expected to perform those duties and responsibilities for complex and extremely complex cases, with independence.Travel Required

Occasional travel - Some travel by car, rail, and air may be required.Requirements

Must be a U.S. Citizen.You must successfully complete a background security investigation.You may be subject to serve a one-year probationary period.Males 18 and over must be registered with the Selective Service.You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this vacancy announcement.Qualifications

Basic Requirements:You must be a graduate from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association. Proof of admission to the Bar of the highest court of a state, territory, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico; and current membership in such Bar as would permit the practice of law. You must be a member in good standing of a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico bar.PROOF MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH APPLICATION.Specialized Experience for the GS-11:One year of experience equivalent to the GS-09 performing all three (3) of the following duties or work assignments:Knowledge of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Age Discrimination Act of 1975, Title II or the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, The Boy Scouts of America Equal Access Act.Skill in oral and written communication.Skills to analyze and resolve legal problems.Specialized Experience for the GS-12:One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 performing all three (3) of the following duties or work assignments:Knowledge of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Age Discrimination Act of 1975, Title II or the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, The Boy Scouts of America Equal Access Act.Knowledge of investigative analytical, negotiation, mediation and resolution techniques.Skills in oral and written communication and ability to analyze and resolve legal problems.
