Commensurate with experiencePosition Overview:The Director of Government Relations leads MEI's efforts to engage with Congress and the Executive Branch. This role focuses on leveraging the candidate’s congressional experience and extensive network of contacts on Capitol Hill to advance MEI's strategic objectives. The Director will oversee the development and execution of programs that facilitate informed policy discussions and enhance MEI’s presence and influence in legislative and executive circles.Responsibilities and Duties:Strategic Leadership:

Program Development:

Design and implement programs that effectively engage Congress and the Executive Branch, aligning with MEI’s mission and strategic goals.Policy Advocacy:

Advocate for MEI’s policy positions and strategic initiatives, ensuring they are effectively communicated to key stakeholders in Congress and the Executive Branch.Institutional Representation:

Represent MEI in various forums, including briefings, hearings, and policy discussions, to promote MEI’s work and enhance its reputation.Relationship Management:

Networking:

Leverage existing contacts and develop new relationships with key congressional members, staffers, and executive branch officials to support MEI’s initiatives.Bipartisan Engagement:

Foster bipartisan relationships to ensure MEI’s programs are inclusive and widely respected across the political spectrum.Stakeholder Communication:

Serve as the primary liaison for congressional and executive branch inquiries, providing timely and accurate information.Program Execution:

Event Coordination:

Plan and execute high-profile events, briefings, and meetings that attract key policymakers and stakeholders, ensuring high attendance and engagement.Briefing Materials:

Develop and distribute high-quality briefing materials and policy papers to inform and influence legislative and executive decision-making.Follow-Up:

Ensure effective follow-up and continuous engagement with attendees and participants to maintain momentum and build lasting relationships.Organizational Development:

Team Collaboration:

Work closely with Policy Center program to integrate congressional and executive branch engagement efforts into broader organizational strategies.Capacity Building:

Contribute to building MEI’s institutional capacity to manage and sustain high-level engagement with Congress and the Executive Branch.Evaluation and Reporting:

Monitor and evaluate program outcomes, providing regular reports to senior management and identifying areas for improvement.Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, Public Policy, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.Minimum of 6 years of experience in congressional relations, legislative affairs, or a related field, with a proven track record of working with Congress and the Executive Branch.Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
