Local 856 - Health Services UnitThe Contra Costa County Health Services Department is accepting applications on an ongoing basis to fill experienced level Clinical Laboratory Scientist positions which may be assigned to the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in Martinez or health centers located in Richmond or Pittsburg.Clinical Laboratory Scientist II

is a journey level classification. Employees perform a variety of professional clinical laboratory procedures and are responsible for the technical accuracy of bacteriological, hematological, biochemical, serological, coagulation and transfusion tests. They also evaluate the validity of test data, maintain quality controls, and assist in the training and development of less experienced scientists and technicians.Performs clinical laboratory procedures in clinical chemistry, micro-biology, hematology, immunohematology, urinalysis and phlebotomyOperates and maintains manual equipment and automated, computer controlled equipmentMaintains quality control statistical dataDraws blood for laboratory testing and processes specimensPerforms laboratory tests in each area of the laboratory on a rotation basisReports patients test results verbally and in writing to members of the medical and nursing staffsStains and interprets blood smears of other biological specimensTypes and crossmatches blood for transfusionPrepares laboratory reagentsMonitors supply inventoriesMaintains laboratory logs and recordsLicense Required:

Possession of a valid license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist issued by the California State Department of Health Services is required. ( To be considered for this recruitment, applicants must submit and attach the required license. )Experience:

One (1) year of full time (or the equivalent) experience as a licensed Scientist in a clinical laboratory performing varied clinical tests and analyses.Other Requirements:

A background investigation/fingerprint and/or physical exam may be required prior to the start of employment.Application Filing and Evaluation:

(Weighted 100%)The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.CONVICTION HISTORY:

After you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer. If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances. Having a conviction history does not automatically preclude you from a job with Contra Costa County.
