position with 12 month base salary support is open in the Climate and Global Dynamics (CGD) Laboratory of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado. This position comes with associated software engineering and project scientist support, as well as a share of CGD administrative and computing resources.Responsibilities:Conduct original, independent, and collaborative research in ocean model development focusing on computational methods and interfacing resolved scale dynamics (ocean dynamical cores) with physical parameterizations across a range of resolutions.Lead and facilitate collaborative research on the incorporation of new ocean dynamical cores within the Community Earth System Model (CESM) framework.Communicate scientific results through publications in scientific journals and presentations at national and international scientific meetings.Coordinate activities with ocean modeling partners, the CESM Ocean Modeling Working Group (OMWG), and university contributors.Contribute to the CGD mission of discovering key processes in the Earth’s climate system and representing this knowledge in community models.Develop an independent research program within the broad scope of NCAR and CGD strategic plans.The position will be filled either at the Scientist I or Scientist II level, depending on experience and qualifications. NCAR Scientist I, Scientist II, Scientist III, and Senior Scientist positions are roughly equivalent to university tenure track ranks of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Associate Professor with tenure, and full Professor, respectively. Promotion from either Scientist I or II is expected within a 5 year term, pending a successful review of scientific productivity and innovation, contributions to CGD and NCAR programs, community service, and emerging scientific leadership.Information for Applicants:
