General Summary : Reporting to the Associate Chief Clinical Officer/Chief Quality Officer (ACCO, CQO), the Medical Director Infection Prevention and Control is responsible for the oversight and implementation of the Infection Prevention Plan in conjunction with the Administrative Director, Infection Prevention and Control and the hospital Medical Directors, Infection Prevention and Control and hospital Infection Prevention Specialists. The medical director is responsible for overall quality, safety, regulatory activities and performance excellence.Reporting RelationshipsDirectly reports to: ACCO/CQOMatrix reporting to: Division Head, Infectious DiseasesDirect reports include: Hospital Medical Directors of Infection Control/PreventionPrinciple Duties and Responsibilities:Serve as the Medical Director of Infection Prevention and Control.Provide subject matter expertise in infection prevention and healthcare epidemiology.Review healthcare-associated infections with subsequent implementation of infection control and process improvement efforts to reduce HAIs.Develop and implement infection control principles and policies related to reduction of multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs), outbreak response, and special pathogens.Interpret epidemiologic data and improve data infrastructures and data reporting in compliance with NHSN, CMS and other internal metrics.Develop annual goals and plan for implementation of the Infection Control Program for review and approval.Maintain infection-specific rates at or below national best practice.Ensure adherence to environment of care standards including disinfection, sterilization and surveillance.Lead system efforts to achieve hand hygiene goals.Develop, implement, and supervise a health system-wide program for the prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections.Lead infectious outbreak investigations and ensure emergency preparedness.Design and participate in quality improvement initiatives to ensure a reduction in harm.Coordinate infection prevention initiatives across the health system.Monitor patient care for compliance with established standards and investigate known or suspected sources of infections.Oversee preparation of Risk Assessment and Infection Control (IC) Surveillance data presented to the IC Committee.Develop and provide related education to staff in partnership with operational leaders.Participate in staffing needs and department operating budgets on an annual basis.Monitor detection and reporting of nosocomial infections systematically.Review Epidemiological Reports to detect clustering of pathogenic organisms or increases in rates of infection.Monitor isolation practices and Standard Precautions while conducting surveillance activities.Inform hospital leadership, Quality Office, and Risk Management of acute issues.Supervise identification of reports on specific communicable diseases to the local Health Department.Review Infection Control Guidelines with appropriate leaders and submit reports to the Infection Control Committee.Chair and participate in Infection Control Committee meetings.Participate on the Quality, Safety and Reliability committee.Maintain a system for surveillance and reporting of infections among patients and personnel.Lead investigations of known or suspected occurrences of infection.Participate in product recalls associated with potential or identified healthcare-associated infections.Serve as a liaison to health departments and the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention.Ensure compliance with relevant requirements from government agencies and accreditation bodies.Education/Experience Required :M.D. degree or equivalent from an approved LCME medical school.Completion of an Internal Medicine residency program and an Infectious Diseases fellowship program from an ACGME accredited program.Minimum of 10 years in direct patient care experience.5 years in healthcare quality and/or performance improvement.5 years of supervisory and/or leadership experience in a healthcare setting.Two plus (2+) years of experience in Infection Control with strong/expert knowledge of infectious diseases.Strong leadership skills with the ability to advance and develop a superior infection prevention program.Excellent interpersonal communication skills.Certifications/Licensures Required :Eligible for Michigan medical licensure.Board-certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease.MPH or MHA preferred.Responsibilities : Meet or exceed core customer service responsibilities, standards, and behaviors as outlined in the HFHS’ Customer Service Policy.Must Possess The Following Personal Qualities :Self-directedFlexible and committed to the team conceptDemonstrate teamwork, initiative and willingness to learnOpen to new learning experiencesAccept and respect diversity without judgmentDemonstrate customer service valuesPhysical Demands/Working Conditions:
