University Counsel - Stanford University

The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is responsible for addressing legal issues arising out of the activities of Stanford University, Stanford Health Care and Lucile Salter Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford. The team consists of in-house attorneys and support staff partnering with outside law firms.This is a University Counsel position and reports to the Deputy General Counsel for Research and Medicine. This attorney is primarily responsible for providing legal counsel to the Stanford University School of Medicine (SOM) Research Management Group (RMG), working with faculty and staff at SOM, but may also provide advice across the University.The attorney must have experience with federal grants, drafting and negotiating research agreements, and working with an Institutional Review Board (IRB). Other preferred areas of expertise include non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), service agreements, and federal and state privacy and data security laws. The attorney will work closely with other University offices to provide analysis and advice on complex research projects and policy interpretation.The position requires discretion, flexibility, excellent judgment, collaboration, and the ability to understand and manage projects with competing interests in a constantly changing, cutting-edge research environment.
