Qualifications Reference:
EMP-1.7. & OPM General Schedule Qualification Standards – IOR for 1520 job series in conjunction with group standards for professional & scientific positions. Basic Requirements for all positions: Degree:
Degree in mathematics; or the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics. Combination of education and experience:
Courses equivalent to a major in mathematics (including at least 24 semester hours in mathematics), plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, applicants must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: FV-H. Education:
3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Specialized Experience:
At least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-G pay band (or FG/GS-5 thru 9 grade level or equivalents in other pay systems) that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the work of the position being filled. Examples may include but are not limited to: application of specialized methods and techniques of the required field of mathematics; gathering, analyzing and processing of data and information to support work efforts. FV-I. Specialized Experience:
At least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-H pay band (or FG/GS-10-12 grade levels or equivalent in other pay systems) that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the work of the position being filled. Examples may include but are not limited to: analyzing system performance by using mathematical techniques; experience identifying problems through the analysis of data to assist in developing solutions; applying statistical methods to issues concerning the biomedical sciences. FV-J. Specialized Experience:
At least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-I pay band (or FG/GS-13 grade level or equivalent in other pay systems) that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the work of the position being filled. Examples include but are not limited to: analyzing data to identify trends or relationships among variables; experience conducting general aviation research with an academic institution; experience as a program manager or a team/project lead on aviation/aerospace research initiatives. FV-K. Specialized Experience:
At least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-J pay band (or FG/GS-14 grade level or equivalent in other pay systems) that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the work of the position being filled. Examples include but are not limited to: experience applying mathematics, statistics, simulation (Monte-Carlo, Discrete-Event, etc.), and Bayesian methods to the analysis of air traffic hazards; and experience conducting risk & trend analysis.
