Position Summary:The Chef to the President works with the House Manager and the President’s Office to plan, oversee and execute all the food preparation for events and family meals. Maintains a very high standard of food quality and service to the many on and off campus guests hosted at the President’s House for functions.Primary Position Responsibilities:Event and meal menu planning, recipe developmentFood and beverage purchasingFood preparation and kitchen managementHiring, training and supervising casual wage staff including two Chef Assistants and an Event AssistantMaintaining clean kitchen and storage areasCoordinating with President’s OfficeBookkeeping and budgetingPerformance Profile:The Chef is successful if the President and College guests have been pleased and satisfied with the food and service at events and gatherings. The Chef needs to be creative, timely, and flexible, maintain high quality, and be attentive to individual health needs and tastes of guests. The Chef needs to communicate effectively with the President and the President’s Office and House staffs.Supervises:Casual wage staff including two Chef Assistants and an Event AssistantEducation Required:Advanced culinary program completion, Certification/education in sanitation and nutritionExperience Required:Several years experience in all stations in both high volume and small high quality restaurant and/or catering establishmentSkills and Abilities Required:Experience in running all aspects of a kitchen, including training and managing a staff of both experienced and novice helpExperience developing and maintaining a budget, keeping accounts, ordering and purchasing food and beveragesFamiliarity with or ability to learn Workday or current College system requiredExperience with special dietary requirements, food allergies, and sensitivitiesOther:The Chef at the President’s House has to be extremely flexible. Work hours and requirement vary considerably over the week and over the year. A great deal of coordination between the office and the house staff is required. During slow periods this chef has developed and offered cooking classes to the College community and has become involved in committees and campus activities.The guests at the President’s House expect a very high level of creativity and dining quality. The Chef works closely with the House Manager to create an enjoyable dining experience. The President’s House is a sought-after venue for College and community events, especially for scholars or major donors visiting the campus.
