Through our work to deliver life-saving injectable medicines to millions of patients daily, West's mark on the healthcare industry has just begun.Job Summary:Reports to the site Health, Safety and Environmental Manager to support the planning and implementation of environmental health and safety programs by developing and maintaining a comprehensive occupational safety program for the facility, including safety inspections, incident investigations, HSE training, and related tasks. The HSE Specialist will help ensure conformity to applicable federal, state, and local standards related to environmental compliance and occupational health and safety.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Guide and promote employee health and safety performance by assisting in developing health and safety systems, programs, and procedures to prevent occupational injuries and illnesses.Participate in incident investigations to guide on finding root causes and identifying aligned long-term corrective actions.Perform facility audits, surveys, and inspections to identify environmental, safety, and occupational hazards and weaknesses.Review and approve risk assessments such as Job Safety Analysis, new processes, new chemicals, and personal protective equipment assessments.Support all chemical and hazardous waste management, including transportation and documentation.Educate employees on how to prevent health problems using safety training programs.Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with West Safety Policies.Participate in projects for new equipment or improvement as safety representative.Contribute to and/or plan and execute HSE, Sustainability, and Corporate Responsibility (CR) related projects.Recommend changes to protect workers.Basic Qualifications:Education: Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or a science-related field.HSE Experience: 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.Experience writing and implementing HSE policies and procedures.Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Pharmaceutical manufacturing industry experience.Master of Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or a science-related field.OSHA 10 certification.Knowledge of OSHA, Federal, State, and local safety laws and regulations.Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.Continuous improvement mindset; proficient in Microsoft Office products.Lean/Six Sigma certification strongly preferred.Travel Requirements: Less than 10% of the time.Physical and Mental Requirements:Medium - exerting up to 50lbs/22kg of force occasionally and/or up to 20lbs/9kg of force frequently.Must wear safety toe shoes, safety goggles, and hearing protection as required.West is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity at our company.
