ECO Posted On August 9, 2023The Department of Marine Resources (DMR) is seeking a Marine Resource Scientist I headquartered at one of the DMR office locations. This position will be part of the Nearshore Marine Resources Program in the Bureau of Public Health.The chief responsibility of this position is to work on environmental permit review including receiving permit applications, assessing impact, soliciting staff input relevant to the project, drafting comments, and submitting comments to relevant state and federal authorities. Reviews include determining the effects of proposed development on Maine's fisheries and marine, estuarine, and riverine (diadromous fish) resources from wetlands alteration, restoration, pollution discharge, and dredging/dredged material disposal. Some travel throughout coastal Maine will be required to conduct project site assessments. This position will work under the direction of the Environmental Review Coordinator.The Nearshore Marine Resources Program is responsible for assessing and managing bivalve shellfish, seaweed, marine worms, and other molluscan species. In addition to environmental permit review, this position will work on shellfish co-management with municipalities, and will assist with field work activities of the group.Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific, technical, or engineering discipline, or equivalent in directly related work experience; and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of marine resource research and management or related field.Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of state and federal environmental permitting laws and regulations; experience with relational databases, GIS, and R; boat handling experience.
