The Colleges seek a part-time faculty member in Music. The ideal candidate will share the Colleges’ commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.Duties and Responsibilities

Teach guitar classes (e.g. Guitar I-IV, Guitar Ensemble I-IV) as assigned from the regular Music Department curriculum.Consult with guitar students during regularly scheduled office hours.Teach applied music lessons to music majors that are majoring in guitar and preparing to transfer into a baccalaureate music major program.Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs.Participate in the assessment of student learning outcomes for assigned guitar courses.Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a Master’s or above in music OR Bachelor’s in music AND Master’s or above in humanities OR the equivalent.Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Recent successful experience in teaching or preparation to teach college-level courses in guitar.Ability to teach in a variety of music styles, including Latin styles, progressive rock, jazz, folk, heavy metal, country, reggae, soul music-Motown, soul music-Memphis, and funk.Ability to teach in a variety of guitar methodologies/pedagogies.Ability to read both traditional music notation and tablature.Ability to communicate fluently and effectively orally and in writing.Commitment to the SMCCCD goal of integrating writing skills across the curriculum.Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated experience as a performer in various styles.Additional expertise in one or several of the following areas: Intro to MIDI (ProTools/Logic), hip hop, and/or world music.Faculty Benefits
