The Colleges seek a part-time faculty member in Botany. The ideal candidate will share the Colleges’ commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. This position is a 'pool' position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available.Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions of this position include the following:Teach all courses offered in the biology curriculum.Assist in curriculum revisions and new course development.Consult with students during regularly scheduled office and lab hours.Maintain expertise in current technologies.Serve as a member of division and college committee.Perform other professional duties as required by contract and general institutional needs.Minimum Qualifications

• Possession of a Master’s or above in botany or any biological science OR Bachelor’s in botany or any biological science AND Master’s or above in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science OR the equivalent.• Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Academic preparation for, or successful experience in, teaching biology, preferably at the college level.Recent teaching experience in plant morphology, anatomy, physiology, and ecology.Knowledge of current trends in plant systematic and classification.Knowledge of successful teaching techniques that engage students in their own learning.Commitment to maintain currency in the discipline, and related technology appropriate to instruction.Ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken language.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Conditions of Employment
