Job Description - Postdoctoral Scholar - Department of Pharmacology (PHAST) (240000002A)Position Overview:

Conducts research in the study of calcium signaling (in vivo and in vitro) in retinal synapses during development, adult, and disease. Performs electrophysiology, multiphoton, confocal imaging, molecular biology, and biochemistry experiments under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. Analyzes the generated data under the direction of the Principal Investigator.Responsibilities:Participate in research project design and manuscript and grant writing.Plan experiments (design, preparation for the experiment, writing procedure and protocols, writing lab notes), data recording, data analysis, and participation in conferences and lab meetings.Work related to the preparation of reagents, supply inventory, supply order, equipment maintenance, and animal colony management.Supervise/assist students and technicians in research projects and experiments.Qualifications:Ph.D. in Physiology and Biological Sciences or a degree in Biological Sciences required; Ph.D., DVM, or MD preferred.Excellent organizational and communication skills are essential.Familiarity with confocal microscopy, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology assays, and zebrafish handling is desirable but not compulsory.Research experience in areas useful to studies of patch-clamp electrophysiology and confocal imaging of live and fixed retinal tissues.Basic understanding of retinal biology and diseases, calcium and vesicle dynamics, zebrafish developments, retinal ribbon synapse, synaptic proteins, in vivo and in vitro calcium imaging, patch-clamp electrophysiology, and confocal microscopy.Applicants should have a demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of equal employment opportunity and affirmative action.About the University:
