September 2022Job SummaryThe Director of Marketing and Communications at Austin Urban Technology Movement (AUTMHQ) is responsible for implementing and maintaining a robust strategic organizational public relations program. The goal is to ensure that AUTMHQ is seen as a leader in the workforce development field. Reporting to the VP of Marketing and Communications, the Director implements and maintains all AUTMHQ external and internal brand management and content distribution strategies, e-mail marketing, advertising, partnership development, and steers the overall execution of the communications goals to advance AUTMHQ's workforce development objectives. The Director will also help to establish AUTMHQ and its members as thought leaders to a broader audience. Through integrated public relations, this position will continue to increase the visibility of the organization's many programs, events, and initiatives to the larger community. The Director will supervise a Marketing Coordinator, and others, when hired.Job ResponsibilitiesImplements strategic proactive media outreach by identifying AUTMHQ brand awareness opportunities; takes initiative to act upon these opportunities to achieve results. Cultivates relationships with media to create future opportunities.Implements organization's e-mail marketing campaigns for all departments and programs.Implements digital and social media strategy, including the evolving digital market and contributes new ideas to enhance the organization's social presence. Analyzes, synthesizes and course corrects based on data and metrics provided.Shepherd our social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Creator Studio, Canva, etc.).Implement social media best practices (trends, hashtags, formats, etc.).Build a 30/60/90-day content calendar for the organization.Engage on social platforms through comments and messages.Identifies trends and leverages opportunities within the industry using channels, social and digital tools.Targets assignments to support the strategic vision of AUTMHQ; develops recommendations of marketing activities to increase revenue.Advances projects and campaigns including coordinating with vendors and managing the communications team junior staff members.Leads and provides strategic direction on new projects. Manages and prioritizes staff time to fulfill cyclical as well as new projects as needed.Assists with maintaining vendor and consultant relationships including metrics and reporting.Creates marketing materials including managing graphic design projects to completion and acts as brand liaison to the organization to ensure consistent brand voice, vision, and aesthetic are achieved.Advances all internal department relationships and project needs for the communications team.Creates marketing relationships with external groups, as assigned.Minimum QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.EducationBachelors degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism or a related field, preferred.Experience3+ years of relevant work experience in communications and marketing, required.5+ years of relevant work experience in communications and marketing, preferred.Experience managing media relations and e-mail marketing campaigns, required.Experience in content development and website design, required.Understanding of website content management systems, required; WIX experience a plus.Experience managing social media communities for brands, required.Print and online advertising experience, preferred.Experience managing staff and vendor relationships, preferred.Experience executing e-mail and social media outreach to targeted audience segments, required.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesExceptional written, oral, proofreading, branding, design oversight, interpersonal and presentation skill set.Management, analysis, and growth of social and digital advertising campaigns with measurable results.Strong organizational and project management skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.Decide which media format (print, TV, radio, web, billboard, etc.) best suits an assignment.Work within a team to create an advertising campaign; design and oversee advertising layouts.Research and write press releases, content for the website, infographics, blogs, and newsletters.Arrange and coordinate press conferences, interviews, help plan events, as assigned.Ability to build and maintain beneficial media relationships on the organization's behalf.Ability to identify potential markets and test them extensively.Proficient using Microsoft Suite (Excel, Outlook, Access, etc.).Ability to take initiative and manage projects assigned through completion with minimal supervision.Ability to work effectively independently and as a highly resourceful team player under pressure and within deadlines.Creative and innovative thinker, who actively presents new opportunities, proposes solutions, and recommends best practices.Ability to anticipate challenges and effectively resolve conflict by identifying opportunities.Ability to work creatively and with flexibility in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high work standards.Ability to develop rapport and engender trust.Exhibits a positive attitude and professional demeanor.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job (in a non-virtual setting; currently this position is hybrid with in-office time expected).
