Director of Music and Liturgy - St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND (Updated)St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Grand Forks, ND is seeking a full-time Director of Music and Liturgy. With about 1400 families, St. Michael's is the largest Catholic parish in Grand Forks. St. Michael's Church is on the National Historic Registry.

The Director of Music and Liturgy is responsible for coordinating, planning, and scheduling the liturgical ministries for the parish, and overseeing the parish sacred music program. Candidates must have a thorough understanding of Catholic liturgical practices, familiarity with liturgical documents and rubrics. Candidates must be familiar with a variety of styles and forms of sacred music, and be able to appropriately incorporate them into the liturgy. Candidates must also have competent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills. Ability to play piano and/or organ is required; experience in choral direction preferred. A degree in Music or Theology with parish experience preferred. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications, starting at $45,000/year. This is a full-time position with benefits. The Music Director will work with the new pastor to evaluate the music program and make changes if needed, and will report directly to the pastor.

Essential Functions:

Coordinating, planning, and scheduling the liturgical ministries for the parish.Overseeing the parish music program.Select and prepare music for weekly and special liturgies.Preparing materials for ministers and congregation for weekly and special liturgies.Schedule ministers for weekly and special liturgies.Recruit, train, and ensure currency for all liturgical ministers.Set up for and assist with weekly school Mass.Lead Environment Committee and ensure appropriate and beautiful decoration in church.Assist Pastor and Associate in planning special liturgies and seasons.Ensure adequate inventory of liturgical supplies.Coordinate ministers for funerals.Meet pre-marriage couples and assist in planning wedding liturgies.Coordinate and, if necessary, lead choirs and scholas.Ensure compliance with copyright laws and other policies.Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

Excellent interpersonal skills.Thorough understanding of Catholic liturgical practices, and working knowledge of liturgical documents and rubrics.Familiarity with a variety of styles and forms of sacred music, with the ability to appropriately incorporate them into the liturgy.Ability to play piano and/or pipe organ.Ability to recruit, mentor, and give feedback to various liturgical ministers.Ability to use Microsoft Office products, Gmail, Finale, and other software.Experience working with choirs or other musical ensembles.Proficiency in choral conducting preferred.Degree in Music, Theology, or Liturgy preferred.Experience working in a parish preferred.
