The Colleges seek a part-time faculty member in Reading. This position is a “pool” position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. Your application for this position will be kept current for a period of two years.Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching, preparation to teach, developmental and transfer-level reading courses.Use teaching methods that engage and motivate students.Commitment to teaching at a community college and an understanding of the role of the community college.Preparation to teach with a multicultural perspective.Use of technology in teaching and learning.Share department’s commitment to established academic standards.Commitment to the goal of reading across the disciplines.Working in the Reading and ESL Center.Teach evenings and/or Saturday classes.Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a Master’s or above in education with a specialization in reading or teaching reading OR Bachelor’s in any academic discipline AND twelve semester units of course work in teaching reading AND Master’s or above in English, literature, linguistics, applied linguistics, composition, comparative literature, TESL, or psychology OR the equivalent.Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.Conditions of Employment

Prior to employment, the selected candidate will be required to complete the following:Submit official transcripts.Submit verifications of prior employment.Satisfactory references.Successfully clear the background checking process.Present original documents for proof of eligibility to work in the United States.Approval of your employment by the SMCCCD Board of Trustees.Provide a certificate of Tuberculosis exam for initial employment.Have fingerprints taken by a Live Scan computer.EEO Statement
