Ocean Career: California OPC 30X30 Staff Scientist

The California Ocean Protection Council (OPC) is hiring two limited term Environmental Scientists (30x30 Staff Scientist) to help advance California’s goal to conserve 30% coastal waters by 2030 (the “30x30” initiative) and broader strategic priorities related to enhancing coastal and marine biodiversity.The Environmental Scientists will be responsible for:Supporting tribal consultations and stakeholder convenings;Identifying science-based strategies to strengthen biodiversity conservation in California’s coastal waters (including research gaps that warrant near-term investment);Coordinating with state and federal partner agencies;Grant and contract management, including developing scopes of work and budgets, tracking deliverables, and coordinating with grantees;Providing additional support and capacity for implementation of broader OPC and California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA) priorities related to biodiversity conservation, such as habitat protection and restoration.Applicants should have a strong scientific and policy background, working knowledge of coastal and ocean issues and stakeholders in California, experience working on projects or research related to conserving ocean and coastal biodiversity (including spatial management in California or elsewhere), and excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks is a must. Proficiency reading and speaking Spanish is desired.This is a 12-month limited term position that may be extended to 24 months with the possibility of becoming permanent.Minimum qualifications for an Environmental Scientist, including necessary education and experience, can be found
