(OAI) is seeking a Social Scientist to join the Social Science Branch (SSB) at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC) in either Narragansett, RI or Woods Hole, MA. OAI provides consulting and technical services to the US government, non-governmental organizations, international organizations, and the private sector, specializing in scientific program and project management, strategic planning, professional and technical services, and stakeholder engagement.The successful candidate will work closely with the Offshore Wind Ecology Branch (OWEB) to provide scientific support and expertise on the effects of offshore wind energy development (OWED) on fisheries and fishing communities. The candidate will contribute to NOAA Fisheries scientific objectives, including developing monitoring standards and socio-economic indicators for impact assessments and researching compensatory mitigation for fisheries and OWED.Tasks:

Assist in development of monitoring standards for OWED and fisheries:

Coordinate and compile existing data, indicators, and strategies for monitoring the socio-economic system.Assist in communication with Fisheries Management Councils (FMCs).Identify data gaps and initiate new data collection efforts, including Paper Reduction Act (PRA) needs.Develop methods for monitoring impacts of OWED on fishing communities.

Assist in development of OWED and fisheries socio-economic indicators:

Review literature to identify existing data and ongoing research.Compile and create data sets.Conduct data analysis and presentation.

Assist in research on fisheries compensatory mitigation:

Review compensatory mitigation literature and existing strategies for OWED.Engage in outreach efforts with fisheries stakeholders.Compile existing data and report on data gaps and recommended methods for monitoring impacts.Prepare monthly progress reports detailing accomplishments and recommendations.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

Graduate degree or equivalent experience in social sciences.Experience with data analysis and relational database management.Basic skills in statistical analyses and proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS).Proficiency in project management for complex scientific programs.Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.Strong time management skills and adaptability to changing priorities.Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

Experience with stakeholder outreach and communication.Knowledge of programming languages, such as R or Python.Experience with NMFS data.Location:

On-site in either Narragansett, RI or Woods Hole, MA. Remote work may be possible.Travel:

Potential travel to meetings and workshops.Salary:

Full-time position with benefits. $32 to $52/hour depending on experience.
