Senior Software Engineer

to join our Criminal Searches team. This team plays a crucial role in our mission by developing and maintaining the systems that conduct accurate and efficient criminal background checks.As a Senior Software Engineer on the Criminal Searches team, you'll work on high-impact projects that directly contribute to the core functionality of Checkr's background check services. You'll be instrumental in improving our search algorithms and systems, enhancing data processing capabilities, and ensuring the reliability and accuracy of our criminal record search systems.What you’ll do:Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient systems for criminal record searchesOptimize search algorithms and systems to improve speed and accuracy of criminal background checksCollaborate with cross-functional teams to implement and improve search functionalitiesEnsure data integrity and compliance with legal and privacy requirementsParticipate in architecture discussions and contribute to technical decision-makingMentor junior engineers and promote best practices within the teamTroubleshoot and resolve complex issues in production environmentsWork closely with product managers and other stakeholders to define and implement new featuresWhat you bring:5+ years of full-stack software development experienceStrong proficiency in at least one of Ruby (preferred), Python, or GolangExperience with large-scale data processing and search algorithmsSolid understanding of database systems, both SQL and NoSQLFamiliarity with cloud technologies (preferably AWS)Knowledge of security best practices and data privacy concernsExperience with microservices architecture and RESTful APIsStrong problem-solving skills and attention to detailExcellent communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environmentNice to have:Basic knowledge of machine learning concepts and their applications in search and data processingProficiency in React, Angular, or similar frontend technologiesWhat you get:A fast-paced and collaborative environmentLearning and development allowanceCompetitive compensation and opportunity for advancement100% medical, dental, and vision coverageUp to $25K reimbursement for fertility, adoption, and parental planning servicesFlexible PTO policyMonthly wellness stipend, home office stipendAt Checkr, we believe a hybrid work environment strengthens collaboration, drives innovation, and encourages connection.
