The Levine Cancer Institute (LCI) and the Department of Surgery at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, are seeking a Chief for the Division of Surgical Oncology to lead an accomplished team of 25+ surgical oncologists. This Chief will also be named the Richard L. White, Jr., MD Chair in Surgical Oncology. The Division Chief will provide a vision and strategic direction to the Division of Surgical Oncology, as well as leadership, supervision, and accountability to fulfill the education, research, clinical, and administrative missions and values of the Department of Surgery and LCI. The Chief of Surgical Oncology will have operational responsibility for surgical oncology across LCI with local accountability to the Chair of the Department of Surgery and LCI leadership.Candidates should be a recognized academic clinician-researcher at the Associate or Professor level, possess strong leadership abilities, management experience in multidisciplinary and multi-professional environments, and the ability to influence, negotiate, and motivate collaborators to build a culture of quality and responsiveness. Candidates should be committed to excellent patient care, research, and leadership on local and national levels. Candidates should also have a strong commitment to the education of residents, fellows, medical students, and advanced practice professionals (APPs).The Department of Surgery has 82 full-time clinical faculty and 6 PhD translational and basic science researchers. Faculty have academic appointments at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. The Divisions in the Department of Surgery currently are Abdominal Transplant Surgery, Acute Care Surgery, General and Gastrointestinal Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, and Surgical Oncology. The general surgery residency matches 6 categorical residents per year. Fellowship programs are offered in Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery, Breast Oncology, Advanced GI Surgery, HPB Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, Acute Care Surgery, and Robotic HPB Surgery. The Department of Surgery has over $5 million in NIH/Department of Defense funding for translational research.LCI is a multi-site, distributed cancer treatment and research facility located in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Institute has become a top-ranked program with a fully integrated and well-developed service line and a robust clinical trials program with more than 400 therapy accruals and an added 1000 other trial enrollments per year. This led to LCI achieving top 50 status for the first time in 2020 in U.S. News and World Report. With more than 25 cancer care locations across the Greater Charlotte Region of Atrium Health, LCI treats more than 19,000 total patients each year, including almost 8,500 categorical cancer cases, positioning LCI as one of the busiest clinical cancer programs in the country. The Institute operates within a unique model of care that provides diverse communities access to world-class care, close to home, with disease teams that treat patients throughout their cancer experience.
