Salary Range:
All new external applicants will be placed on the initial step of the salary range. However, placement above the initial step of the salary range will be based on special characteristics and critical needs of the position, an applicant's exceptional qualifications, the availability of funds, and other relevant factors. Such appointments require prior approval. Hawaii State Department of Education employees will be placed on the salary range in accordance with Department regulations.
Architect VI, SR-28: $6,949.00 - $8,455.00 per month
Plans, directs, advises on and reviews the work of subordinate professional and nonprofessional personnel engaged in architectural design projects, including the preparation of plans, specifications and cost estimates; determines work priorities, and makes broad work assignments; develops design criteria, techniques, methods and procedures for the accomplishment of architectural projects; analyzes and reviews the work of subordinates in terms of technical, functional and aesthetic adequacy, and for conformance to departmental policies, regulations, and legal requirements; coordinates activities of its section with other sections or departments, other government agencies, private contractors or consultants, and the public; assists in the development of broad work programs and policies and in preparing and justifying budgets; makes recommendations and commitments concerning such matters as design changes to meet special conditions or functions, and need for hiring special consultants for mechanical, electrical, or structural engineering problems, subsurface investigation, and surveying; recommends organizational and functional changes, and performs such personnel management functions as approving leave, initiating requests for personnel action, evaluating employee performance, and handling disciplinary problems; serves as a technical consultant on architectural matters; and prepares or directs the preparation of technical reports and correspondence.Education Requirement
: Graduation from an accredited school or college of architecture or engineering, with a degree in architecture or architectural engineering.
Four (4) years of successful and progressive experience in architecture which will enable the applicant to perform successfully at the professional level may be substituted for graduation from college provided this experience demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture and an understanding of the field of architecture comparable to that which would be acquired through successful completion of a full four-year course leading to a bachelor’s degree in an accredited college or university with a major study in architecture.

Professional License Requirement
: For the Architect IV and higher levels, applicant must possess a Hawaii State Certificate of Registration as professional architect.Driver’s License
: For some positions, applicants may be required to have a valid Hawaii State driver’s license.Tests
: Applicants who do not possess a bachelor's degree in architecture or architectural engineering, but qualified through substitution of progressively responsible architectural experience, as provided for in the Education Requirement section above, may be required to take and qualify on a written test designed to measure the applicant's knowledge and understanding of the architectural sciences and techniques and their application to architectural problems.Applicants for the supervisory levels must qualify on the Supervisory Judgment Test. Applicants for the administrative level must qualify on the Administrative Judgment Test. These tests, however, may be waived for non-competitive actions if the incumbent had previously qualified on these tests.Salary:
The advertised salary is based on full-time employment and includes shortage and school year differentials, if applicable.
