The Fred Hollows Foundation ("FHF" or "The Foundation") is a global health nonprofit organization whose mission is to end avoidable blindness and restore the gift of sight. Today, 43 million people around the world are blind - but nine out of 10 of them do not have to be. The Foundation's vision is for a world where no person is unnecessarily blind or vision impaired. It continues the work of the late Professor Fred Hollows, an Australian eye surgeon renowned globally for his humanitarian and unstoppable spirit to drive change and ensure everyone has access to high-quality, affordable eye care, no matter where they live.Over the past 30 years, from working in Australian Indigenous communities and in Nepal, Bangladesh, and Eritrea, The Foundation has scaled its work to more than 25 countries throughout Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Australia, and the Pacific. It has restored sight to more than 3 million people and transformed the lives of millions more from the most vulnerable and underserved communities worldwide. Despite this progress, the number of people living with severe vision impairment and blindness is predicted to double by 2050. By this time, it is estimated that 1.7 billion people will be vision impaired, with more than 55% being girls and women. This alarming statistic has wide ranging social and economic consequences, impacting individuals, households, communities, and health systems worldwide. With local teams in country, The Foundation’s priority is to reverse avoidable blindness, and partner with governments, local NGOs, and communities to strengthen health systems and facilitate sustainable eye health solutions.Looking to the Future
