Senior Specialist – Makerspace (Search Extended) Department:
Walker Library Job Description: Provide technical, functional, and operational support at the microcomputer and information technology level for Windows, MacOS, and Linux systems required to support the Walker Library Makerspace Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm. Coordinate the use of fabrication and design hardware and software in the Walker Library Makerspace. Computing environment includes multiple platforms and discipline-specific equipment and software. Contribute to student success and engaged learning by providing multimedia equipment and software application technical assistance and guidance in the Makerspace and through individualized consultation sessions to library patrons; assist patrons with the creation of various multimedia, programming, electronic, and physical projects in these areas; make purchase recommendations to the Assistant Manager of Library Technology for new equipment and software. Develop student staff and patron training for new equipment and software; provide patron and student staff training and expert assistance with the laser cutter/etcher, computer numeric controlled routers, vinyl plotter, 3D printers, hand tools, virtual reality headsets, augmented reality headsets, microcontrollers, microcomputers, soldering, and electronic test equipment; coordinate training, train, and supervise approximately 30 student workers during their shift while in the Makerspace. Design and produce demonstration and promotional items for the Makerspace; provide curriculum enrichment and informational services to classes who visit the Makerspace. Perform other related tasks and special projects as assigned. The work shift is 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM, Monday – Friday, but requires flexibility in shift and days of the week as needed to meet the demands of the service. Required Educational Qualifications and Field of Study: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Mathematics, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Multimedia Engineering Arts, or related field. Required Year(s) and Type of Work Experience: Three (3) years progressively responsible full time or six (6) years equivalent part-time progressively responsible experience that must include design, fabrication, experience directly related to makerspace equipment and the installation, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of microcomputers (IBM compatible/Macintosh) and peripherals. High school diploma and eight (8) years’ progressively responsible directly related experience may be considered in lieu of the Bachelor’s degree. A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Mathematics, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Multimedia Engineering Arts, or related field with limited experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree with three years of experience may be considered. Preferred Year(s) and Type of Work Experience: Five (5) years of professional experience as described above in a medium to large organization or higher education environment preferred. Two (2) years prior work experience in a library, computer lab, electronics lab, or makerspace environment preferred. Certificates/ Licenses Preferred: Salary Range:
