About the role:As a Legal Counsel for Europe and Africa, you will join a team of eleven counsel, seven of whom are based in Uxbridge, and report to the Director, Legal Counsel EMEA. You will handle a broad range of legal issues, including contractual, commercial, disputes, competition, regulatory, dispute management, IP, real estate, and compliance matters.
In this role you will:
Take personal responsibility for the legal requirements of specific EMEA countries and/or EMEA-wide legal projects.
Support the EMEA legal team with various tasks.
Provide legal advice and support to specific EMEA countries on all their legal requirements.
Liaise with key stakeholders in the business at all levels.
Offer legal advice and support on specific EMEA-wide multi-jurisdictional legal issues.
Advise the business on commercial risks, providing appropriate solutions and alternatives, and facilitating sound commercial risk management.
Interpret and analyze external counsel advice, assessing its reliability, questioning as needed, placing it within the relevant commercial context, and providing comprehensible, business-focused advice.
Instruct and actively manage external counsel in line with agreed scope and budget.
Support the EMEA legal team on various other projects.
Handle litigious/contentious matters, including compliance and investigations.
Advise HR teams on employment-related matters.
Provide training to business stakeholders on key legal issues.
Skills and Background Required to be Successful:
Utilize analytical skills to evaluate external counsel advice, seek clarification, and challenge when necessary.
Effectively apply legal advice to relevant commercial circumstances, providing comprehensible guidance and judgment to business stakeholders.
Demonstrate proactivity and the ability to work autonomously.
Focus on building relationships and strong communication skills.
Exhibit initiative in solving practical problems.
Manage interactions with multiple stakeholders and cover various disciplines and subject areas.
Maintain a strong customer and results orientation.
Interact effectively at all levels with sensitivity to cultural diversity.
Prioritize and manage a busy and varied workload efficiently.
Show a desire for growth and learning.
Possess a strong team ethic and collaborative nature, functioning effectively as a team member.
Education:
Qualified solicitor or member of the bar, with a degree from a recognized university.
Ideally, a minimum of six months post-qualification experience gained in a recognized law firm and/or fast-paced in-house legal department, although all candidates with demonstrable ability to fulfill the role will be considered.
Experience with multiple jurisdictions is helpful but not required.
