AAAS provides actionable evidence for public policy that serves society and promotes policies that enable quality science.Located in AAAS’s Washington, DC, headquarters, this position will lead the strategic direction and operation of a AAAS marquee initiative recently launched at a White House Summit—the STEMM Opportunity Alliance (SOA)—an alliance that will construct a national STEMM equity strategy and mobilize cross-sector, aligned actions to achieve ambitious equity goals that power scientific excellence and innovation. Reporting to the Director of Inclusive STEMM Ecosystems for Equity & Diversity (ISEED), this Director will provide team leadership, strategic direction, and operationalization for SOA.The SOA is a national public-private effort coordinated by the AAAS, with the support of more than a dozen funders and over 150 cross-sector partners, aimed at galvanizing stakeholders to achieve STEMM equity and excellence by 2050. This effort will bring together organizations and entities from across sectors and scientific communities that are committed to developing and advancing a national strategy for achieving shared goals for equity in STEMM. SOA aims to build a cross-sector movement to catalyze systemic change and achieve an equitable and inclusive STEMM ecosystem. In its first year, SOA will focus on the development of a co-constructed, evidence-based national strategic plan with broad partner buy-in and clear, measurable goals.The SOA Director will develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across the education, research, workforce, and industry continuum and create opportunities for coordination and cooperation to create a paradigm shift in the pathways to and within STEMM careers. They will collaborate with AAAS senior leaders as well as its communications, government affairs, and philanthropy functions to ensure the success of SOA. The successful candidate will have demonstrated abilities in strategic thinking, collaborative leadership, operations, and inclusion and equity in STEMM.CONTACT
