This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.Responsibilities:

The incumbent serves as a Medical Technologist in VA MT Healthcare, Ft. Harrison site responsible for coverage of all clinical disciplines of Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Blood Gases, Coagulation, Blood Bank, Phlebotomy, and send out testing (excluding Histology and Basic Microbiology). Required to cover shifts as assigned on our 24-hour, 7-day per week service; weekend, holiday, and night shifts are covered as sole technologist on-site.In addition to these broad medical technologist duties, the incumbent is also responsible for the technical oversight of the entire Chemistry Department, including:Oversight of multiple chemistry instruments and adherence to all current accreditation standards.Quality control program oversight including corrective action as necessary and new method development.Performing testing procedures on a variety of biological specimens and/or environmental samples using manual and automated techniques.Maintaining validity of assay systems and evaluating the validity of data.Skillfully collecting venous and arterial blood samples from patients.Work Schedule:

All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.Qualifications:Basic Requirements include:A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in medical laboratory science, medical technology, clinical laboratory science or in a related science AND completion of a medical technology clinical practice program.Certification as a MT, MLS, or CLS given by the ASCP-BOC, ASCP-BOR, or AMT.Preferred Experience in molecular or microbiology.Physical Requirements:

The incumbent must be able to perform moderate lifting up to 20 lbs, standing for up to 4 hours, and have specific visual requirements including depth perception and color distinction.Additional Information:
