Description

The Division of Cardiac Surgery at Children’s National Hospital is seeking an experienced cardiovascular surgical technologist to join our team. NBSTSA certification is required. As a member of the Operating Room team, the Cardiac Surgical Technologist will function in the scrub role and will monitor and maintain aseptic technique, equipment, supplies, and instruments. They will be responsible for receiving, washing, inspecting, preparing, sterilizing, and storing instruments, trays, equipment, and supplies according to policy and procedures. In addition, the candidate is expected to rotate and function in other area services when there are no cardiac procedures.

Ventricular Assist Devices Program:

We offer the next generation of ventricular assist devices.

Pre-Operative Care Clinic:

The POCC team screens patients for surgery and creates a specific care plan.

Qualifications - External

Minimum EducationHigh School Diploma or GED (Required)Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program

Minimum Work Experience2 years experience as a Cardiovascular Operating Room Technician in the OR with specialty in adult or pediatric open heart procedures (Required)

Functional AccountabilitiesClinical/Surgical Case Preparedness Competency

Prepare the Operating Room for cardio-vascular surgical procedures.

Identify, select, and handle the appropriate types of accessory and specialty equipment.

Select and apply appropriate draping material for surgical procedures.

Identify and prepare customized cardiac sterile packs and trays.

Maintain highest standards of sterile technique during operative procedure.

Anticipate the needs of the surgical team.

Supplies

Organize supplies in the sterile field.

Count instruments, sponges, needles and other items as indicated by unit/hospital policy.
