The Department of Journalism and Media Management in the School of Communication at the University of Miami invites applications for a cluster hire in Journalism Studies with an emphasis on social justice. The position requires a Ph.D. in Communication, Journalism Studies, Media Studies, or a related field. The positions are tenure track or tenure eligible.Successful candidates employ critical empirical approaches and would be able to help catalyze research and pedagogy in social justice as they intersect with at least one of the following areas:Gender, race, and social justice journalismScience and environmental journalismSustainable and entrepreneurial journalismLocal, community, and solutions journalismGlobal journalismBilingual journalismSports journalismThese candidates have a track record or the potential for impactful scholarship, dynamic and inclusive teaching, and innovative collaboration with practice-based faculty. New faculty will teach and mentor students at the undergraduate, MA, and Ph.D. levels, and they will contribute to curriculum development in their areas of expertise. Research expectations and teaching load reflect an R1 university with significant research activity.The Department is dedicated to theory-driven and experiential learning on the undergraduate and MA levels, valuing innovative synthesis through praxis and collaboration. Research faculty contribute to the school-level Ph.D. in Communication and mentor students with interests in journalism studies, media studies, and global social change. Department educator faculty mentor award-winning student media organizations including UMTV, The Miami Hurricane, The Community Wire, and a growing podcast initiative. The Department offers an MA in Journalism and MS in Media Management, and shares an MFA in Documentary Film with the Department of Cinematic Arts.UM is a top-tier institution of higher education in the United States.
