Join us and play an important part on our incredible team!We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Pathology Technician for a full-time position. Join our Team and play an important part of our incredible Animal Health & Rescue Center!What you get to do: Perform gross necropsy exams of terrestrial and marine animals (i.e. birds, mammals, fish, reptiles, invertebrates).Check-in tissue or biopsy samples, initiate pathology reports, trim preserved tissue into cassettes for histology processing, and perform other tasks needed for diagnoses and/or reports.Assist in organization and shipping of samples for further processing, and ancillary testing.Responsible for post-processing samples, for archiving and for formalin disposal.Document and maintain a pathology image archive.Assist in the management of the pathology database.Facilitate pathology evaluations from affiliated facilities in southern California.Assist in clinical and conservation research project data collection and publication.Clean and maintain necropsy room, walk-in refrigerator and freezer. Clean and maintain trimming station, ultralow, freezer and refrigerator.Assist with organization and storage of biomaterials from necropsied specimens in refrigerator, freezer, and preserved tissue archives.Work closely in a team setting with the pathology, veterinary and laboratory teams within the hospital.Other related duties as assigned by Hospital Manager, Pathologist and/or Veterinarians.What it takes to succeed: Must be at least 18 years old, detail oriented, able to multitask and be organized.Bachelor's Degree in Biology or related field required, comparative anatomy experience preferred.Experience with laboratory or animal-related work required. Pathology experience preferred.Must be able to work with minimal or no supervision, follow instructions/SOPs, make informed decisions, or seek guidance from Veterinarians/Pathologist as needed Working knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, including QC and Troubleshooting.Must be computer and technology savvy; comfortable with digital medical records, imaging, and proficient in Microsoft applications to work on spreadsheets and/or databases.Strong written/verbal communication skills; able to read, write and speak English.Must be able to lift, push, pull and/or carry up to 50 lbs.Regular use of hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.Position engages in extensive walking and standing throughout entire work shift and climb/ascend heights, if needed.Stand for prolonged periods of time.Perform the following physical activities: kneeling, squatting, bend floor-to waist/waist-to-overhead, reach overhead, simple grasp and fine hand manipulation tasks (use of tools/keyboard/writing)Position may be exposed to fumes, dust, odors and cold/heat temperature extremes.Perform cleaning duties; including use of cleaning chemicalsMust be flexible in work locations as placement will depend on business needs and career development opportunities.Have 5 days of unrestricted availability to include weekends and holidays.40 hours per week.Overtime hours may be necessary upon business need.Work indoors and in outside weather conditions (i.e., direct sunlight, wet and/or humid)Able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.Able to work in an environment with moderate noise levels.Must be able to manage time wisely and set priorities effectively.Able to positively interact with guests and co-workers of all ages, different ethic/cultural backgrounds and/or language, and individuals with special needs.Compensation: $25.00 per hourThe perks of the position:Paid Time OffComplimentary Park Tickets and PassesPark Discounts on Food and MerchandiseMedical, Dental, and Vision Insurance401K Retirement planVoluntary InsuranceLife InsuranceDisability BenefitsTuition ReimbursementDependent and Health Care Flexible Spending AccountsEmployee Assistance ProgramLegal Assistance PlanEEO Employer:SEAWORLD PARKS & ENTERTAINMENT IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER.
