With more than 100 years of innovation as a foundation, we are paving the way forward for the next generation of chemistry and partnering with our customers to build a better tomorrow.This position reports to the Senior Manager of Operations and will be responsible for managing and leading the Newport organization to operate the plant efficiently, with excellent EHS and a Continuous Improvement Mind-set to further the SI Group Brand promise of Operation Excellence. The individual will be responsible for compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, safety, and health regulations at the TN site.People/Team Management:Provide guidance and support to department managers and their teams concerning environmental, safety, health, industrial hygiene, fire protection, and security matters. Provide motivation, encouragement, and development to maximize performance of peers and their respective departments.Encourage a close-knit organization where people feel comfortable to freely discuss plans and problems and receive advice without being relieved of their decision-making responsibilities.Develop constructive relationships and earn the respect and confidence of employees, vendors, government representatives, and members of the plant community to enhance SI Group’s Brand reputation as a reliable and responsible company.Implement a system of training and skill verification to ensure each employee possesses the needed EHS skills.Environmental Regulatory Compliance:Prepare regulatory permit applications, amendments, reports, and renewals as needed. Ensure that permits are up-to-date and permit conditions contain accurate information. Ensure permit conditions are met by plant operations.Develop, complete, document, and submit to TDEC and/or EPA prior to the regulatory deadline certain annual, semi-annual, monthly, weekly, and/or daily environmental reports for the TN site.Perform and/or verify fugitive VOC emissions calculations and 90-day RCRA LDAR.Report and investigate environmental events, excursions, spills, and incidents according to regulatory and internal requirements.Arrange for waste disposal and shipments including documentation and recordkeeping according to regulations and internal procedures.Serve as the site “Management Representative” for RC14001 Responsible Care Management System.Safety and Health Compliance:Ensure an environment of safe and healthful working conditions through development and implementation of general safe work procedures and practices.Provide for the implementation of a training process for all employees and contractors to meet all regulatory required programs and to fulfill the needs of all TN departmental requirements.Administer an effective Industrial Hygiene program.Provide support as needed to comply with Process Safety Management and other required programs.General Responsibilities:Ensure the site maintains a climate of good and safe working conditions through strict personal observance of plant safety rules, good housekeeping, and initiation of continual safety awareness programs.Communicate on behalf of SI Group-TN with all regulatory agencies, vendors, insurance companies, and other parties dealing with Environmental, Safety, Health, Fire Prevention, and Security issues.Develop and maintain procedures, plans, and programs to ensure EHSS compliance and continuous improvement in EHSS performance. Meet the plant’s objectives in such a manner as to promote the most effective utilization of personnel and equipment.Follow SI Group’s ISO Quality programs and support RC14001 compliance.Supervise contract security personnel; evaluate site security needs, assessing security plans as needed.Education and Experience:Required:BS in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Engineering, or Safety.10 years of experience with plant air permitting in the specialty chemical, petrochemical, and/or regulatory/environmental industry.Previous facilitation of Safety/Environmental training.Preferred:10 years of experience in a safety engineering-related job and/or interaction with OSHA with the ability to grow into the role.Minimum 24-hour Technician Level Hazmat Training and annual refresher training.All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
