You will drive the development and implementation of applications across a diverse range of data sources including analytics, text, time series, and images. A key function of this role will be driving the evolution of our Aria Assistant application and expanding the capabilities of our prediction and optimization experts. You will leverage cutting-edge technologies such as OpenAI GPT, Google Gemini, and Meta's Llama to build solutions that enhance the capabilities of both our internal and external services. As an advanced technical leader in the Python ecosystem, teammates will look to you for best coding standards and conventions.Responsibilities

Implement, maintain, and promote best practices and hygiene in our Python code repository for others to follow and emulateCollaborate with our optimization and analytics team members to write shared libraries, design and implement robust solutions intended for high performance with large datasets and complex computationsEnsure data quality and integrity throughout the data lifecycleIntegrate internal and external user applications with modern transformer-based AI services such as OpenAI’s GPT, Google Gemini, and Anthropic’s ClaudeWork closely with platform and infrastructure engineers to build LLM-augmented developer productivity, observability, and anomaly detection toolsOccasionally also work alongside our platform, infrastructure, and data analytics engineers on various data pipelines to support our product and internal operationsMinimum Qualifications (Who are you?)

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related fieldStrong programming experience in Python (+5 years) and experience with libraries like NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, and PolarsStrong background in statistical analysis and computational mathematicsIntermediate understanding of modern AI/ML technologies and their application in commercial environmentsProficiency in working with large datasets and data processing (streaming and batch) in both transactional and analytical settingsFamiliarity with data warehouse and pipeline solutions for analytical workloadsParticipate in code reviews, maintain technical documentation, and adhere to best software development practicesStrong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environmentExcellent communication and teamwork skills, with a flair for creativity and innovation in software engineeringPreferred Qualifications (Ideal Candidate)

Master’s degree or PhD in a related fieldSenior or Staff level software development talent and upFamiliarity with the gRPC + Protocol Buffer ecosystem (we use Buf’s Connect SDK)Experience with fine-tuning foundation modelsIntermediate experience in developing and deploying AI/ML models, particularly with frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similarPractical knowledge of model inference and trainingProficiency working with Natural Language Processing libraries like spaCy, NLTK, Scikit-learn, Polyglot, etcUnderstanding of application specific architectures such as CUDA, GPUs, and TPUsKnowledge of cloud platforms and services, particularly those related to AI/ML deploymentsDemonstrated experience in leading projects or initiatives within data science or AI domainsHands-on experience deploying and maintaining one or more data pipeline, warehouse, and analytical solutions such as Hadoop, Spark, Airflow, DBT, Dagster, Presto/Trino, AlloyDB, Postgres, BigTable, Snowflake, Hive, RedShift, S3, GCS, etcBenefits
