The University of Texas at San Antonio Libraries seeks a user-focused, collaborative Head of Access Services to provide innovative leadership and management for the Access Services Department at the UTSA Libraries’ John Peace Library, Downtown Library, and Applied Engineering and Technology Library locations. The department supports the teaching and research goals of UTSA students, faculty, and staff, facilitating access to resources through circulating collections, print and electronic reserves, interlibrary loan and delivery, stacks management, and technology lending.

The position supervises staff with flexible onsite and hybrid work schedules and is eligible for a

hybrid

work modality, depending on departmental needs.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

Master’s degree (degree by date of hire)

Five years of experience working in access services in libraries (e.g., circulation, course reserves, public services, interlibrary loan and document delivery, technology lending, or stacks management)

Three years of direct supervisory, management, and leadership experience

Demonstrated advanced experience using an ILS such as Ex Libris Alma or other library management systems

Knowledge of information and bibliographic management systems and their application to access and user services

Demonstrated understanding of best practices, issues, and national trends in academic research libraries and in access services

Demonstrated ability to set and articulate staff performance expectations and departmental goals, and direct work in a collegial, flexible, and cooperative manner

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with people from a range of diverse backgrounds

Outstanding oral and written communication skills

Excellent organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize and balance multiple assignments and projects

Strong service orientation; demonstrated ability to mentor staff and promote staff development

Use of standard office equipment and software

Criminal Background Check (CBC)

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program

Three years of demonstrated advanced experience using an ILS such as Ex Libris Alma or other library management systems

Project management experience

Evidence of creative approaches to service problems

Ability to collaborate with other staff and faculty

Salary : Minimum $70,000 / flexible, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full-time A&P, benefits-eligible position.
