Assistant Director of Electric Utility - Resource Planning and Customer Engagement: Role within the Utility

The Assistant Director – Resource Planning and Customer Engagement (AD) leads the utility strategy to meet a Carbon Free future while demand continues to grow at a rate of 10% per year. This role has primary accountability for providing leadership in the Resource Planning and Customer Engagement division which provides resource acquisition and delivery, customer relations and sustainability, forecasting and resource planning, and external relations. Specific accountabilities and qualifications in this role include:

Demonstrated leadership with utility experience (Municipal or Investor Owned) with demonstrated ability to develop a vision for the workgroup, set priorities, establish goals, and deliver quantifiable results.

Strong communication skills with peers and others within the organization.

Knowledgeable with customer service, resources, rate/tariff development, revenue requirements, and public benefits programs for electric utilities.

Knowledgeable of CAISO/FERC/Municipal rules and regulations.

Ability to develop and implement the strategy to meet Carbon Free future by 2035.

Demonstrate relationships with peers in industries to keep current with industry trends.

Provide clear business context, career development support, and strategic leadership to the COO and Chief Electric Utility Officer.

Attend SVP’s city meetings and provide professional expertise to large groups and City staff.

Initiate, develop and maintain effective professional relationships with department peers, bargaining units, employees, and citizens.

Collaborate and prioritize with the three other Assistant Utility Directors.

Lead development and succession planning.

Background Profile

Bachelor’s Degree:

in business administration, engineering, or an approved related field from an accredited college or university.

Advanced Degree:

in financial management, business or public administration, engineering, or law may be substituted for two (2) years of the qualifying experience requirement.

Experience:

Ten (10) years of increasingly responsible operations, engineering, contract or financial administration, legal support, resource planning or acquisition, asset management, or supervisory experience in an electric utility or a closely related organization.

Management Experience:

Three (3) years of management (of people) experience in an electric utility or a closely related organization.
