The University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a Research Analyst with Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, McKnight Vision Research Center.

The Research Analyst prepares data, conducts statistical analysis and summarizes results for a variety of research projects.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

Analyzes data and interprets research findings.

Identifies appropriate data sources to conduct and execute analyses.

Verifies accuracy and internal consistency of reports, including required state and federal reports.

Ensures proper technical documentation and preparation of tabular and written reports and gives oral presentations.

Completes surveys and reports, discipline-specific accreditation, and admission and grant proposals.

Provides feedback and assistance on honing conclusions and recommendations into actionable findings.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required

Experience:

Minimum 2 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:

Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.

Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.

Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.

Department Specific Functions

This position is a hybrid position initially envisioned as three days/week onsite, two days/week remote with the exact split dependent on department needs.

Pre-Award -

This role is expected to be familiar with a variety of funding sources and mechanisms. Knowledge of grants and contracts.

Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines.

Works independently to assess complex grant, contract, and subcontract documents where analysis requires in-depth evaluation of multiple variables.

Assist Sr. Research Analyst, Principal investigators, post docs, students, and others as applicable, in the development, preparation and submission of compliant proposal materials and accurate budgets by interpreting sponsor guidelines and requirements, University policies, and Federal regulations.

Communicates internal deadlines, schedules and expectations to faculty, post docs, Administration, and students as well as outside Institutions and companies to ensure timely, accurate submission of materials.

Advise faculty/PI on administrative requirements in preparing proposal submissions using technical expertise and analytical skills.

Prepare, coordinate, and review proposal elements such as budgets, justifications and Other Support for consistency, accuracy, and completeness.

Manage the subcontract process with collaborating organizations, institutions, and companies by working with them directly to prepare subcontract documentation.

Responsible for reviewing submissions from PI for accuracy and completeness prior to routing to ORA with the authority to reject grant applications for revision prior to submission.

Learn changing technologies related to grants and contracts management, including federal updates and web-based submission portal changes.

Post-Award -

This role ensures compliance with Federal and University requirements related to sponsored accounts.

Monitors research expenditures on an ongoing basis to ensure that they follow University and Sponsor Guidelines.

Attends bi-weekly meetings with clinical research coordinators to prepare and submit invoice(s) to sponsoring agency according to payment schedule of agreement and discuss current account balances.

Contacts Principal Investigator and study team when annual reports are due to avoid suspension of research protocol(s) and study activities.

Manages closing protocols and accounts once PI submits final report to IRB and Sponsoring Agency.

Provides support to Principal Investigators and coordinators during internal audit visits - UM and Sponsor compliance officers.

Work with the Principal Investigators on any Just-In-Time (JIT) and extension requests (No-cost extensions), review NOGA’s and budgets as awarded.

Prepares and maintains Other Supports - effort and grant information for all key research staff.

Oversees and manages research portfolios for PIs annual evaluation with the department Chairman and leadership.

Ensures that account expenditures do not exceed budgeted levels for needs beyond established budget.

Provides advice to faculty and staff regarding sponsored research administration issues, interpreting a broad range of sponsor policies, government regulations and terms and conditions such as award restrictions.

Provides outstanding customer service and support to faculty and staff in understanding the issues related to items described in research contracts and grants.

Serves as primary point of contact for the Office of Research Administration, CRIS, IRB Human Subjects office, DVR, Purchasing, Medical Finance, and Accounts Payable.

Ensures that Investigators needs are being met and work with them to assure grant report compliance and satisfaction.

Attends all finance, research workday trainings to gain more knowledge on all aspects of research administration.

Research Support -

This role assists the Sr. Manager of Research Support with multi-tasks associated with research support as needed.

Assist research faculty with the acquisition / purchase, installation, and training on new equipment.

Assist faculty with disposal of Surplus equipment following University Guidelines.

Interface with University Support Functions to ensure that all areas of the McKnight building are maintained in good working order.

Assist Sr. Manager maintain Department Space Inventory and assist investigators with optimal use of assigned spaces.

Provide administrative support for department and sponsored accounts on an as needed basis.
