Associate General Counsel Sr. - Carelon Medical Benefits ManagementPreferred Location(s) : Indianapolis, IN; Chicago, IL; Wallingford, CT; Atlanta, GA; Nashville, TN; Iselin, NJ; Mendota Heights, MN; or New York, NY.Elevance Health supports a hybrid workplace model (virtual and office) with PulsePoint sites used for collaboration, community, and connection.Candidates must reside within 50 miles or 1-hour commute each way of a relevant Elevance Health location. The selected candidate for this role will go into their local office 1-2 times per week.This position will be an individual contributor role but will serve as Senior Counsel of Carelon Medical Benefits Management, which is part of the Carelon structure at Elevance. Carelon is a healthcare services company dedicated to making it easier to deliver whole-person health. Carelon Medical Benefits Management is a specialty benefit management company that performs utilization review for multiple types of services including imaging, oncology, cardiology, and sleep for all Elevance Health plans, as well as 20+ external health plans.How You Will Make an Impact:Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:Serve as a trusted advisor to the Carelon Medical Benefits Management CEO, helping him to implement his strategic vision.Establish a proactive, engaged partnership with Carelon Medical Benefits Management business leadership to prevent or reduce the unnecessary escalation of issues.Serve as a subject matter expert on legal issues specific to health organizations and help the business to focus their efforts based on the legal/regulatory landscape.Operate within a matrixed organization, which includes both Carelon and Elevance leaders.Work on extremely complex and multifaceted problems in which analysis of solutions and/or facts require an evaluation of intangible variables.Develop methods, approaches, and evaluation criteria for advising the business on level of risk.Manage multiple, high-profile, fast-moving projects in an organized manner, paying close attention to details.Be part of the Carelon legal team helping to establish best practices across all the Carelon business units.Provide concise and timely briefings to senior level business and upper-level legal management.Lead legal projects which have a broad organizational impact and high level of risk.Minimum Requirements:Requires a JD, current license to practice law, and a minimum of 9 years of specific industry and/or technical legal experience post licensure; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. Experience managing outside counsel strongly preferred.Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences:Preferred candidate has both strong contractual and regulatory expertise.Experience working in a health care organization that is a vendor to health plans a plus.For candidates working in person or remotely in the below locations, the salary range for this specific position is $160,080 to $288,144.Locations: California; Colorado; Nevada; Washington State; Jersey City, NJ; New York City, NY; Ithaca, NY and Westchester County, NY.In addition to your salary, Elevance Health offers benefits such as a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
