Are you ready to be a part of the Janie and Jack story?About The Job:We are seeking a highly skilled Corporate Attorney to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in managing the company’s contracts, with a primary focus on drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial real estate lease agreements and related legal documents (approximately 65% of your time). In addition, you will be reviewing goods and services contracts/agreements, including those related to merchandise/non-merchandise procurement, store design and construction, technology, and marketing. Your legal acumen should be coupled with a commercial mindset to support the organization in its strategic decision-making process.What You’ll Do:Draft, review, and facilitate execution of necessary legal documents while ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, company policies and commercial interests.Negotiate and challenge contract terms with external parties, emphasizing legal and potential commercial implications where necessary.Lead and assist Company leaders in addressing situations of high legal exposure or risk; understand overall business risk tolerance and consider it in the context of risk management strategies and actions.Collaborate with outside counsel, real estate agents/consultants, property managers, and other stakeholders to clarify lease/contract terms and consummate transactions.Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external service provider(s) in the determination and confirmation of requisite recurring lease/contract payments and reporting.Research and stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends that have potential impacts on the company from a legal standpoint.Manage up-to-date contract records, ensuring proper documentation, filing, and record-keeping in compliance with company policies and legal requirements.Assist with compliance and develop strategy with respect to data privacy requirements, including CCPA.Provide legal support for retail real estate/lease related disputes and litigation.Conduct legal reviews of employment-related documents such as contracts, agreements, policies, and handbooks.What You’ll Bring:J.D. from ABA accredited school and member in good standing with the California State Bar.Significant experience (5+ years) as a commercial real estate attorney specializing in contract review and documentation.Retail industry experience strongly preferred.Strong understanding of contract and real estate law, including familiarity with relevant retail leasing laws and regulations.Excellent contract drafting and negotiating skills and general business acumen.Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to summarize complex legal concepts clearly and concisely.Proficiency in legal research and the ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, and precedents.Strong organization and project-management skills.Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and drive challenging matters to completion.Self-starter with the ability to work independently.Strong problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to distill complex information.Why You'll Love Working with Us:The Product—so good, you’ll be using your employee discount more than you probably should.The People—ask anyone that works here…we have incredible people on our team.The Experience—you’ll enjoy a rewarding career at a respected children’s brand.Let’s Talk Perks!Employee discount at Janie and Jack.Paid holidays and flexible time off.Generous Health Savings Account (HSA) employer contributions for individuals and families.Flexible Spending Accounts and commuter benefits.Life insurance.Extensive 401(k) plan with company matching.Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance*Employee Assistance Program with resources like financial and legal assistance, childcare and elderly care, emotional work/life counseling, health, and wellness resources, travel assistance.Actual starting pay for this role is determined by a wide array of factors including but not limited to qualifications, experience, relevant skills, education, and geographic location.
