Join us as we shape the future of the car and everyone around it.Role SummaryThe Engineer ML/CV position is responsible for designing, owning and developing computer vision applications by leveraging machine learning and deep learning methods. The Engineer ML/CV will contribute by introducing novel approaches to develop and continuously improve a new approach for intelligent object detection in the vehicle and machine learning applications in the cloud-based big data platform. The Engineer ML/CV will be a member of CARIAD’s technical team and interfaces with multiple stakeholders of VW Group’s technical team members.Role ResponsibilitiesEngineering ML/CV– (80%)Research and develop cutting edge machine learning algorithms for perception problems such as semantic segmentation and object detection, to be used in the online perception systemWork on the deployment of these models to a fleet of vehiclesGuide the development of CV algorithms from prototype to production - including training on large scale datasets, and deploying on a real time robotic platformWork with a growing team of machine learning experts and software developers to develop novel solutions to challenging problemsOperational Management - (20%)Owns the relationship with technical interfaces locally, engage in strategic discussions and negotiations.Monitor compliance with relevant local regulations, statutes, Board Directives, process standards (including in respect of Golden Rules and Product Compliance), procedural/operating instructions and occupational safety regulations using appropriate management controls (dual-control principle).Identify and mitigate project technology risks and execution risksYears of ExperienceMaster degree/PhD with 3+ years of professional experience in Computer Vision, machine learning or a related field3+ years of professional experience coding in Python and/or C++Required EducationMSc in computer science, robotics, or a similar quantitative area with exposure to computer vision techniquesDesired EducationPhD and relevant publications and/or patentsSkills:Analytical and conceptual thinkingExperience in developing software for ML-CVCommunication skills - interpersonal, presentation and writtenIntegration - joining people, processes or systemsInfluencing and negotiation skillsStrategic/visionary mindedRequired Skills:Excellent strategically thinking, negotiation, and communication skills.3+ years of experience as a tech lead, significantly contributing in overarching system design and SW architecture matters3+ years of experience working with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorflowGood knowledge of classical CV algorithms and deep learning for object detection, tracking, semantic segmentation and active learningIdeally experience with perception sensors including LIDAR, radar, and camerasStrong oral and written communication skills in EnglishDesired SkillsFirst-author publications in the top notch journals in the fieldPrior experience with autonomous driving, sensor fusion or computer vision at scaleExperience with GPU programming is a plusExpertise in probabilistic modeling, Bayesian methods, model compression, imitation learning, planning under uncertainty and/or low-level inference is a plusWork FlexibilityTravel to worldwide locations requiredCompensationSalary range is dependent on factors such as geographical differentials, credentials or certifications, industry-based experience, qualification and training. In the city of Santa Clara, California, the salary range for this position is $132,400 - $202,000.
