Job DescriptionWhile reporting to the Senior Vice President & General Counsel for WGL Holdings, the WGL Energy Associate General Counsel will serve as a pro-active, trusted advisor to the President and Senior Business Leaders of WGL Energy Services and other unregulated corporate affiliates.Duties and Responsibilities

Representing WGL Energy and other non-utility affiliates in regulatory proceedings in the Mid-Atlantic (particularly DC, MD and PA), including drafting testimony and preparing comments for submission in notice-and-comment rulemakings.Monitoring and advising on changes in regulatory law and policy that could impact potential or emerging business risks facing the company.Reviewing and revising marketing content and collateral to be distributed online, in print, presentation, or audio.Reviewing and revising external sales and marketing agreements for sponsorships, partnerships, promotions, and affinity programs.Protecting the organization’s rights in developing, drafting, negotiating, and reviewing a wide variety of agreements, contracts, and legal documents, including: (1) Retail commodity contracts, (2) wholesale purchase contracts for gas and power (ISDAs), renewable energy, and tradeable instruments like RECs and carbon offsets; and (3) memoranda of understanding, confidentiality agreements.Investigating and responding to residential customer complaints before state commissions.Developing strong relationships with other in-house counsel, internal clients, and stakeholders to provide advice and counsel on consumer protection and marketing rules, renewable energy marketing guidelines and practices.Providing practical, results-oriented counseling and support in accordance with company policies, including risk mitigation and dispute resolution counseling.Qualifications, Skills And Abilities

Juris Doctorate required.Hands-on experience in the Retail Energy space.Proven success in appearing before state regulatory commissions and in structuring, negotiating, and drafting agreements for retail energy transactions.7+ years of progressive legal experience with a mid- to large-size corporation or law firm required.5+ years of experience in laws, rules, and regulations applicable to retail energy sales preferred.Membership in good standing of at least one state bar, one of which must be in the District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia.Needs to be a self-starter who can work independently.Possesses the ability to be proactive.Demonstrates strong leadership skills and capabilities.Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.Meticulous attention to detail.Proven drafting skills with precision, creativity, and ease.Ability to multi-task and lead multiple efforts.Willingness to work under tight timelines and pressure.Experience working in a matrixed environment.Ability to work within various technologies (i.e., Salesforce/DocuSign) to review and red-line documents as needed.For Canadian hires : AltaGas hires personnel on the basis of job-related qualifications.
