At Smith+Nephew, we design and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living.As the Analytical Scientist, you will provide global support to Smith & Nephew sites where Analytical Chemistry testing is required. You will focus primarily on extractable and leachables testing of medical devices related to the ISO 10993 Biocompatibility Guidance and work on multiple projects using a wide range of analytical techniques including GC-MS, ICP-MS, and LC-MS. The Scientist works to the highest standards to support Smith and Nephew's ongoing research and new product development (NPD) programs, product support, and non-conformity testing.What will you be doing?
Work within a cross-functional team of engineers and scientists to deliver on agreed milestones for new product development, early phase evaluations, and legacy products.Implement experiments that will satisfy regulatory and internal requirements.Help develop and implement analytical methods using a variety of analytical techniques including FTIR, GC-MS, GPC, HPLC, ICP-MS, LC-MS, and SEM-EDS.Align with the laboratory management practices set up by the laboratory manager including S&N global health, safety, and environmental practices.Work within the framework of international standards (e.g. ISO 10993 and ISO 17025) and ensure compliance.Assist laboratory team to create and update work instructions for safe and effective use of equipment in the laboratory.Travel Domestic – 0-10%What will you need to be successful?
Education: B.S./M.S. in ChemistryPrior experience or internship experience in a lab with any of the techniques listedMust have good time management skills and able to perform well under pressure.You are expected to spend significant time in a laboratory environment.Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.You.
