Primary Purpose

To lead the Commercial Section of the SoCalGas Law Department, serve as a trusted advisor to the company and a strategic partner with the leadership team on transactional matters to help SoCalGas achieve its vision of being the cleanest natural gas utility in North America. Areas of responsibility broadly include commercial contracts, finance support, real estate, municipal franchises, and compliance counseling.

Duties & ResponsibilitiesSupervise lawyers or others in the law department in the handling of transactional matters affecting SoCalGas.Manage outside counsel providing legal services to the assigned area.Provide strategic advice to other attorneys, as well as to others in the Business Units and company leadership.Work with General Counsel in administration and oversight of the law department.Resolve workplace related concerns of supervised personnel and manage staff to ensure compliance with company policies.Encourage and support the professional development of others.Formulate and monitor the objectives, plans, schedules, budgets, policies, and procedures pertaining to specific legal activities.

QualificationsEducationJD (Juris Doctor) J.D. or L.L.B. from an accredited law school. RequiredExperience12 + Related experience is required.Experience in the utilities industry is preferred.Antitrust experience is preferred.Governance experience is preferred.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong leadership.Strong analytical ability.Strong organizational skills.Maturity of judgment and conduct.Some travel (mostly within California) required.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Licenses & CertificationsAdmission to the California Bar and a member in good standing.
