Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest.Join the Credit Engineering team and partner with Product and Credit Risk to solve complex challenges on how to protect consumers from overextending themselves while enabling Affirm to be where consumers need us most. As part of the team, you will focus on designing and implementing new features in our underwriting platform to support our partnered merchants and our users across a wide number of interfaces, including Affirm Card, ecommerce sites, and the app. You will have a direct impact on the performance of Affirm as we look to continue to grow and expand the reach out of Affirm loans in a safe and responsible way for our customers!What You'll Do
Design and build new features for our credit underwriting platformLead technical strategy for broad or complex requirements with insightful and forward-looking approaches that go beyond the direct team and solve large open-ended problemsParticipate in the strategic development of methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for projects and programsImprove engineering standards, tooling, and processes throughout the organizationWork with product managers and credit risk analysts to influence the strategy and delivery of the underwriting platform and its capabilitiesWork with technical leaders in the team to design and implement insightful, forward-looking approaches that go beyond the direct team and solve large open-ended problemsActively contribute to components of our underwriting system while also improving the health of surrounding systemsCollaborate with engineers within our team and across the organization to build the next generation of the financial productsLearn and improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes across the platformWhat We Look For
6+ years of experience as a software engineer with leadership responsibilitiesExperience mentoring other engineers in a technical capacity through sharing your learnings and providing feedback that will help the team growProven track record of developing, testing, and shipping high-quality software at scaleYou enjoy leading technical architecture discussions and drive technical decisions within your team and beyondYou communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. If anything, you trend towards over-communicationEagerness to learn new things and the curiosity to understand the unknownFamiliarity with Python, AWS, Java/Kotlin, MySQL, Github is a plusEmpathy to help support our partners and teammatesPrior experience building, launching and maintaining consumer scale productsStrong cross-team communication and collaboration skillsExperience scaling systems in a service oriented architecturePay Grade

USA Pacific base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT):Min: $190,000Mid: $237,500Max: $284,900USA Sapphire Base Pay Range (all Other U.S. States):Min: $171,000Mid: $213,700Max: $256,500Affirm is proud to be a remote-first company! The majority of our roles are remote and you can work almost anywhere within the country of employment. Affirmers in proximal roles have the flexibility to work remotely, but will occasionally be required to work out of their assigned Affirm office.
