SummaryThe Corporate Counsel for Aspen One (AO) will serve as a key member of the legal team and will focus primarily on legal issues relating to AO’s group, tour and event agreements across, intellectual property matters, licensing, merchandising, data privacy, labeling, manufacturing and import issues across AO’s business lines Aspen Skiing Company (AspenSnowmass), Aspen Hospitality and AspenX. As new hotels are developed within the AO Aspen Hospitality business and new retail facilities are developed within the AO AspenX business, Corporate Counsel may help with labor and employment, insurance, land use, contractor and designer agreements. Corporate Counsel will also be expected to provide a more effective and frictionless shared services model across all three of AO’s businesses (Aspen Skiing Company, Aspen Hospitality and AspenX) and deliver unique and differentiated customer experience.The budgeted salary range for this position is $135,368 to $174,942. Actual pay will be dependent on budget and experience; all our salaried roles are eligible for bonus.Essential Job FunctionsProvides strategic, relevant legal advice and counsel to the real estate planning, retail, rental and marketing efforts across AO business unitsNegotiate, finalize and prepare a wide variety of agreements and contracts for executionSupport continuous improvement of standard forms of agreements and legal processes across all AO business lines, including researching and monitoring laws and regulations applicable to AO's businesses and proposing updates to contract templates, contractual provisions, and corporate policiesHelp the Chief Business and Legal Affairs Officer (CBLAO) and the AO Legal Team in support of their work as requestedLegal guidance and advice to support and drive compliance with current and future legal requirements regarding data privacy and use across business units, particularly with regard to new marketing and sales initiativesLegal guidance and advice regarding intellectual property, brand protection, merchandising and marketingLegal guidance and advice regarding labor and employment matters as AO continues to expand beyond the Roaring Fork Valley, working closely with Deputy General Counsel (DGC) and CBLAO.Counsel internal clients and business units regarding global privacy law and obligationsCounsel internal clients and business units regarding labeling, manufacturing and import law and obligationsWork with Associate General Counsel (AGC) and CBLAO to advise and support Aspen Hospitality, provide legal support for land use applications, construction, designer and architect agreements, as well as vendor and sales agreements.Provide general support on various transactions such as purchase and sale agreements, and other types of commercial arrangementsWork with DGC and CBLAO to advise and support cross business executions related to Aspen Snowmass, including with regard to sponsorship activations, group and tour contracting, new business initiatives, and risk mitigationEvaluate and recommend appropriate legal courses of action to meet business needs.Work with outside counsel as neededResearch and prepare legal opinions for as requested by the CBLAO, DGC, AGC, or supported business unitsOther duties as assignedQualifications

J.D. from an accredited law school requiredMust be licensed to practice law in the U.S. with ability to obtain Colorado license within 6 months of hiringA minimum of five years relevant legal experienceSolid knowledge of and experience with intellectual property law, licensing, merchandising, product manufacturing, labeling, brand development and protectionContract drafting and negotiation experience; excellent drafting and negotiating skillExperience advising both business units and legal teams regarding global privacy law and obligations, including knowledge of applicable privacy laws including GDPR, Colorado Privacy Act, and the California Consumer Privacy ActExperience serving as the privacy subject matter expert during M&A due diligence, contract negotiation and integration a plusUnderstanding of hospitality, public lands and/or real estate development law a plus.Prior experience within a medium to large law firm and/ or in-house legal experience a plusLabor, employment and insurance knowledge a plus and prior experience working within an organization to expand the company’s products and/or services is desirableMust be self-motivated with the ability to work independently and possess overall strong business acumen with good time management skillsStrong personal character and commitment to AO’s Guiding PrinciplesFrequent, effective communicator with ability to explain complex legal issuesExcellent judgment and common sense coupled with the ability to recommend reasonable, balanced approaches that minimize legal risk while achieving business objectivesLove of and appreciation for the sport of skiing, ski-based communities, outdoor recreation and active livingAdditional Information
