This position will report to LIRS's Director for Public Policy. The Legal Advisor will support LIRS, its field offices, and its network through the provision of training and technical assistance on immigration law, policy, and practice. The primary function of the Immigration Legal Advisor will be to provide technical assistance and training on client-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally competent legal counsel and representation to clients on related immigration matters. The immigration advisor will collaborate with cross-department colleagues, and affiliate partners within the LIRS network to achieve this goal.

This position can be remote with occasional trips to Baltimore as needed.

DUTIES

Provide training and technical support to local staff on various immigration matters for clients served by the LIRS network.Research, design, and write resource materials on immigration law and policy.Work with local partners to organize and hold legal workshops to provide limited legal services for clients.Provide training on trauma-informed, client-centered, and culturally competent legal screenings and representation.Prepare and conduct outreach and education programs on immigration law and legal services program management.Provide training and technical assistance on individual case escalation and case collections.Conduct training and provide technical assistance on group information sessions on Know Your Rights.Assist with community outreach and education, group presentations, and workshops.Perform legal research on immigration law and regulations.Maintain accurate data entry and record-keeping for grant-funded projects.Represent LIRS in coalition meetings and build relationships with like-minded organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in providing training and technical support on immigration matters.Strong research and writing skills on immigration law and policy.Ability to organize and hold legal workshops.Experience in trauma-informed and culturally competent legal practices.Knowledge of immigration law and legal services program management.Ability to assist with community outreach and education.Strong legal research skills.Experience in data entry and record-keeping.
