Job Description:What you need to know about the role:As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be a subject matter expert. We are looking for technologists with the highest levels of technical talent, programming, and communication skills with a keen desire to deeply understand our product and how to make our systems more robust and more resilient.

We teach and learn from one another and push each other to be at our creative and analytical best.In your day-to-day role, you will:Lead engineering efforts and team-level processes by defining outcomes for others, refining ongoing processes, and providing technical advice to senior leaders on systems, solutions, challenges, and strategy.Be an evangelist for technical standards, engineering best practices, and quality across the larger Venmo team and PayPal, Inc. Determine the technical tasks that other engineers will follow.Support end-to-end ownership of software components' design, implementation, and operational excellence while proactively improving existing structures and processes.Contribute to the technical engineering roadmap by completing quality and thorough assessments of implementation alternatives and their associated tradeoffs and providing recommendations.Be consistently solutions-focused while contributing to the vision of the domain and larger Venmo & PayPal technical engineering roadmap.What Do You Need To Bring:8+ years of experience in backend developmentExperience in all phases of enterprise software design, development, and testing.Highly skilled with one object-oriented/object function scripting language: preferred Python.Experience with RDBMS and NoSQL data stores, caching solutions (e.g., Redis, ElastiCache, Hazelcast), and messaging/queuing protocols/systems such as SQS/Kafka/RabbitMQ/PulsarExperience with distributed services and backend systemsExperience building services on the public cloud – AWS, GCP, Azure.Experience working with fault-tolerant and scalable distributed services and systems.Our Benefits:At PayPal, we’re committed to building an equitable and inclusive global economy.
