Position Purpose:

Following established policies and procedures and under minimal guidance

of the Financial Manager, the Senior Accountant provides broad-based accounting assignments

requiring advanced knowledge of accounting theory and in compliance with general accepted

accounting principles (GAAP). Main responsibilities include general ledger/bank account

reconciliations, month-end close, financial statement preparation, and regulatory/tax reporting.

Ensure complete, accurate, and timely completion of financial records for the Credit Union.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Complete general ledger and/or bank account reconciliations and ensure the accurate and timely resolution of reconciling items. Research and correct discrepancies.Prepare periodic, month-end, and quarter-end closing entries to properly account for general ledger activities in accounting system, core banking platform, and other third-party systems.Responsible for the preparation of financial statements, management reports, and NCUA 5300 Call reports. Review and analyze fluctuations and variances in balance sheet and income statement accounts. Streamline and improve the data collection and reporting process.Assist in the Allowance for Loan and Lease Losses (ALLL) monthly analysis including updating/validating data and preparing associated reports. Work with the Financial Manager to ensure analysis in compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.Assist in certifying general ledger/bank account reconciliation prepared by Accountants and Lead Accountant.Participate in reviews and certification of employee payroll processing prior to and/or post submission.Prepare and/or coordinate the preparation of Credit Union federal/state income and property tax returns, which include the 990 and 990T. Ensure the timely payment of all taxes.Provide support for internal auditors, external auditors, and regulators as directed by the Financial Manager. Collect fieldwork data for audits and exams including but not limited to confirmation letters, audit questionnaires, pro forma data, and other audit schedules.Assist the Financial Manager in developing, documenting, maintaining, and improving processes and internal controls related to operational and financial accounting functions. Ensure process documentation and desktop procedures are accurate and updated timely.Act as a super-user for accounting systems, develop reports to assist management, and lead integration of systems as planned.Maintain effective communication and coordination with Credit Union personnel and with management.Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a concentration in accounting/finance or extensive experience in advanced financial accounting and reporting.Minimum of five years performing accounting functions for financial institutions is preferred.Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is a plus.Advanced spreadsheet skills are required. Strong personal computer skills including Microsoft Office.Professional written and verbal communication skills.A high degree of organization and the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.Excellent collaborative skills and the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is usually of a personal or sensitive nature.Knowledge and understanding of the mission and vision of the Credit Union.
