CARE DUAL STATUS ATTORNEY: JOB DESCRIPTIONPosition SummaryCLCLA1 is seeking a

CARE Dual Status Youth (DSY)

Attorney. The CARE Dual Status Youth (DSY) Attorney works collaboratively with the CARE DSY Social Work Investigators, CLC case-carrying attorneys, criminal and juvenile defense attorneys, probation officers, service providers, and the client to further the client's legal rights and to advocate for all needed services for the client and their family, including helping the youth navigate and successfully complete probation.ResponsibilitiesThe primary duties of the Dual Status Attorney include, but are not limited to:Advocate on behalf of clients involved with the juvenile justice and dependency systems.Assess the critical issues of each assigned case by conducting an independent investigation and obtaining facts needed to properly assess each case.Attend juvenile justice, dependency, and dual-status court hearings and advocate on behalf of dual-status clients.Using an intensive case management model, the CARE-DSY Attorney will work collaboratively with the DSY Investigators on a small caseload of clients as determined by the CARE program model and CLCLA1 Management Team.Serve as a resource attorney to all CLCLA1 team members regarding dual-status clients.Participate in ongoing case reviews of all dual status cases to identify and create a strategy to handle legal issues.Establish and maintain communication and collaboration with DCFS, caregivers, and service providers.Attend Multi-Disciplinary Team Meetings (MDT) and Child and Family Team (CFT) meetings.Attend policy/stakeholder meetings as directed by the CARE project and Firm Director.Research and write legal briefs.Develop and deliver in-house and field trainings for CLC staff and stakeholders.Refining and creating CARE/241.1 training materials in coordination with all CLC CARE Teams.EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONSThe Successful Candidate Will Also DemonstrateA successful candidate for this position has a Juris Doctor degree and is in good standing with the State Bar of California.Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. They should demonstrate a professional demeanor in behavior, appearance, and communication. Excellent time management skills, accountability, problem-solving, principled decision-making, client relationship-building skills, and critical thinking ability are required.Possess the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct in order to maintain effective relationships with clients, families, service providers, and other child welfare professionals.Prior experience in dependency or juvenile justice law or trial experience is required.BENEFITS & COMPENSATIONThe pay range for this position is $88,510 to $137,889, based on relevant experience as determined by CLC.
