This is an in-house fully remote position that will handle a designated caseload of Workers’ Compensation cases with appearances before the California Workers' Compensation Boards in Marina Del Rey, Los Angeles, Van Nuys, and Oxnard. This position will be part of a collaborative learning environment with onsite appearances in partnership with our Attorney Staff and Claims Teams. Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive and develop well-reasoned legal research.Independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, petitions for reconsideration, and trial briefs in support of defense strategies with autonomy.Partner with our Claims Partners to achieve the best results for our Hartford insured.Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice, and other services to clients on legal and factual issues.Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel with professional diplomacy and discretion.Facilitate prompt, efficient, and effective disposition of assigned cases.Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial/administrative hearings, arbitrations, and alternative dispute resolutions.Research, draft, file, and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts on behalf of clients.Provide in-house training to junior associates and/or claims partners.Participate in claims file reviews.Attend continuing legal education seminars in order to maintain a high level of professional expertise.QUALIFICATIONS:

Note: This position may be filled as a Staff Attorney or a Senior Staff Attorney commensurate with a candidate’s experience.Qualified Staff Attorney candidates will possess the following requirements:

Minimum of 3 years of legal practice experience handling complex Workers’ Compensation cases.JD from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in the state of California.Trial experience is preferred.Positive minded and collaborative team-player attitude.Strong legal research and writing skills.Solid MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook).Lexis Nexis experience is a plus!Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required.Qualified Senior Staff Attorney candidates will possess the following requirements:

Minimum of 7 years of legal practice experience handling complex/life pension Workers’ Compensation cases.JD from an accredited law school and license to practice in the state of California.Trial experience is preferred.Positive minded and collaborative team-player attitude.Excellent legal research and writing skills.Strong MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook).Lexis Nexis experience is a plus!Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required.WHAT ELSE CAN YOU TELL ME?

This position is a remote work opportunity; however, our selected candidate will travel 1-4 days per week (pending future court openings) within the following geography: Los Angeles, Marina Del Rey, Van Nuys, and Oxnard, California. The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency, and demonstration of competencies required for the role.
